BACKGROUND

Hi Cam commenced business in March 1996 here in Australia, providing low-level aerial photography with a radio-controlled helicopter, and standard photography from full-sized aircraft when regulations require it.

To take an accurate photo from the helicopter requires a live video link, so the shot can be framed up correctly.

We found that "spy shop" equipment was unsuitable unless modified. Some businesses were selling systems for aerial use, but these were bulky and needed 12 volts (10 cells). Generally they supplied CMOS cameras, unless you paid to upgrade to CCD.
So we ended up building our own system and experimenting with different setups. Some of the setups are shown at left. This experience taught us some valuable lessons about what works, and what doesn't.

It was clear that there was a market for well-designed video transmission systems to suit hobbyists wanting to get real-time views from their model planes or cars.

So we decided to move from aerial photography to designing and manufacturing video transmission systems. We've been doing this for over a decade, producing many generations of systems.
